(TRENDING VIDEO) School Children Nickname Mahama 'Omanpanin Hisense 'At the Independence Day Celebration.

Students at St. John Bosco Basic School brought a cheerful atmosphere to Ghana's 69th Independence Day festivities by giving President John Dramani Mahama a playful new nickname.

At a cultural event held at the Jubilee House, students from a school in Tema addressed the President as 'Omanpanin Hisense,' which elicited laughter and applause from the dignitaries and attendees. This lighthearted nickname was intended to underscore what the students characterized as a significant decrease in the prices of goods following President Mahama’s return to office in 2025.

Their enthusiastic chant quickly emerged as one of the highlights of the occasion, momentarily transforming the formal ambiance into one of joy.

The nickname also appeared to reference a popular advertising slogan associated with Ghanaian actress and media personality Nana Ama McBrown, who serves as a brand ambassador for the electronics company Hisense. Her widely known catchphrase, “Hisense! Yatete so sei hu,” is commonly used in television promotions and has become a pop-culture expression in Ghana.
