Ghana has been mentioned in connection with a Canadian car theft operation after intercepted stolen luxury cars.
Ghana has been mentioned in an international auto theft investigation after Canadian authorities uncovered a criminal network allegedly shipping stolen luxury vehicles overseas.
According to Peel Regional Police, six suspects have been arrested in connection with a violent carjacking ring operating across the Greater Toronto Area, including Toronto and Mississauga.
Investigators say the group targeted high-end vehicles, with at least eight stolen cars valued at approximately $800,000 recovered during the operation.
Police further revealed that some of the vehicles had been re-vinned—a process used to disguise stolen cars—and were being prepared for export, with Ghana identified as one of the intended destinations.
In a significant breakthrough, two of the suspects were arrested at Toronto Pearson International Airport while allegedly attempting to flee the country.
Those charged in the case include Rainer Fernando (37), Steven Walsom-Gerigs (36), Matthew Hymers (21), Bradley Walsom (38), Steven (Gisselle) Lopez (22), and Samson Igbasan (20), all residents of various parts of Ontario.
