Ghanaian TikTok creators could soon start receiving compensation.

 

GCB Bank PLC has formally presented a proposal to TikTok to serve as a direct payment gateway for Ghanaian content creators, in a move designed to streamline payouts and strengthen the country’s digital economy.

The initiative seeks to cut out intermediaries and reduce fees, ensuring creators receive a larger share of their earnings from TikTok gifts and monetization streams. Under the proposal, GCB would leverage its financial infrastructure to provide direct transfers into bank accounts, mobile money wallets, and Visa or MasterCard debit cards. By removing third-party agents who often take significant commissions, the system is expected to make digital content creation more financially rewarding and transparent.

A GCB delegation, led by Chief of Staff Abraham Ferguson, presented the proposal to the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George. The Minister expressed his support, describing the plan as a positive step for Ghana’s creative and digital sectors.

TikTok’s West Africa representative, Ms. Tokumbo Ibrahim, confirmed that the company will review the feasibility of the proposal, adding that TikTok is open to solutions that align with regulatory requirements while improving the creator experience.

If approved, technical teams from GCB Bank and TikTok will begin work on integrating their systems. The process would involve consultation with Ghana’s financial authorities to establish a formal framework for secure and seamless payments to creators.
