Amaarae, Wendy Shay and Moliy Nominated For AFRIMA 2025.
Ghana’s music scene has received significant continental recognition with three of its leading female artists – Amaarae, Wendy Shay, and Moliy earning nominations for Best Female Artiste in Western Africa at the upcoming All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).
The nominees list, released Wednesday, showcases the rich diversity of female musical talent across West Africa, with Ghana strongly represented alongside artists from Nigeria, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, and Guinea.
Amaarae, known for her groundbreaking alternative sound and international appeal, is nominated for her track “S.M.O,” which continues to receive global acclaim. Wendy Shay, one of Ghana’s most consistent hitmakers, earns her nomination for her latest single “Too Late,” while emerging talent Moliy is recognized for her collaborative effort “Shake It To The Max” featuring Shenseea, Skillibeng, and Silent Addy.
They face stiff competition from regional heavyweights including Nigeria’s Avra Starr (“All The Love”) and Tiwa Savage (“Youame”), Senegal’s Viviane Chidid (“Mandou”) and Max Gussé (“Choix” ft. Wally Seck), alongside talented artists from Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, and Guinea.The nominations highlight Ghana’s growing influence in the African music landscape and the particular strength of its female artists who are making waves both locally and internationally.
AFRIMA, established to celebrate musical excellence in Africa, brings together artists from across the continent to recognize outstanding achievements in various music genres. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place later this year.
