"I don't know why people say we have gospel and secular music, who drew the line?" - ACP Kofi Sarpong Ask.

 

The lines between holy and secular music are becoming increasingly hazy, as seen by the moving song by Joyce Blessing and King Paluta, the collaboration between Obaapa Christy and Kwabena Kwabena, and the use of gospel themes in Kuami Eugene’s compositions. The question of whether these musical realms are actually distinct has been fueled by Empress Gifty’s candid interactions with popular musicians.

Gospel singer and Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Kofi Sarpong, has added his voice to this discussion. He states that if the chance presents itself, he has no problem collaborating with secular musicians


If the opportunity comes, I will not hesitate, or if the time comes, I will not hesitate at all,” he revealed during an interview on The Career Trail on Joy Learning TV and JoyNews.


All these words that we put together and put rhythm on to become music are all languages that we speak or things that we experience,” he explained. “If it comes to marriage and how couples should live, we get them from Songs of Solomon. Motivations and proverbs are all there. So I don’t know why we should even say that we have gospel and we have secular, that we have drawn the line.
