"God Protect Ibrahim Traore” – Ghana’s Rapper Sarkodie Heaps Praises on Burkina Faso’s President

Ghanaian legendary rapper Sarkodie has thrown his weight behind Burkina Faso’s young and revolutionary president, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

In a tweet (now known as X) posted today, April 25, 2025, Sarkodie asked God to “protect” Ibrahim Traoré,” praising his pan-African vision, fearless leadership, and commitment to self-determination in the face of foreign intervention.

Captain Traoré, who came to power through a military coup in 2022 at just 37 years old, has become a symbol of resistance and sovereignty across West Africa.

His rhetoric against neocolonialism and his calls for African unity have earned him both admiration and criticism, particularly from international powers with vested interests in the continents.

Sarkodie’s support comes in midst of many young Africans who are looking for leaders who prioritize African interests over foreign agendas.

With this, Sarkodie has joined the growing wave of African voices calling for a change away from dependency and toward a more independent, Pan-African future.

The “Adonai” singer statement has sparked debate, with some praising his boldness for speaking out on political issues, while others urge caution in romanticizing military-led governments.

Some also chastised him for being silent on former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, citing economic downturns throughout his eight years in office.
