Boomplay Set To Award Artistes With Milestone Streaming Plaques
Africa's largest music streaming platform, Boomplay, is set to kick off
awarding artistes, who have attained notable streaming milestones with
their songs, albums, and total streams.
Dubbed ‘’The Boomplay
Awards’’ and entering its second year, the scheme is driven by music
consumption data on the Boomplay app and will lead a data-oriented
campaign on the digital music revolution, particularly streaming, for
the benefit of the music industry.
In a statement to the media,
the Ghana Country Manager of Boomplay, Elizabeth Ntiamoah-Quarshie,
relayed that, "With digital music revolution reshaping the global music
industry, streaming is fast becoming the industry's biggest source of
revenue for artistes and record labels. Boomplay being the leading and
largest digital streaming platform of the African music industry makes
us a strategic partner of the African artiste and a crucial player of
the industry.
Our vision is to build the largest and most
reliable music ecosystem for African artistes and content creators; to
enable them to unlock their full potential and benefit from it. As such,
an initiative to acknowledge and award artistes for milestone streams
is to make a case for streaming to become a vital focus of the music
industry in Ghana. It is also to highlight the hard work our artistes
are putting into their careers digitally and the contributions of
supporting stakeholders including management teams, fans, media, and
industry players like Boomplay."
She added that "These plaques to
be awarded to artistes are based on credible data of Ghanaian music
consumers that can afford artistes statistics and analytics to measure
their reach, growth, and digital value. These can be vital to their
music business decisions."
Following a successful reception of
the plaques last year, Boomplay plans to tell the streaming success
stories of artistes receiving the awards this year especially emerging
artistes such as Gyakie and Black Sherrif.
The biggest winners
this year are the usual suspects, the 3S: Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, and
Shatta Wale. However, the likes of KiDi, Kuami Eugene, Kofi Kinaata,
King Promise, Kwesi Arthur, Joe Mettle, Diana Hamilton, Sonnie Badu and
Joyce Blessing closely follow the 3S. Notable new entrants to be awarded
this year include Fameye, Gyakie, Black Sherrif, and Keche, who have
had a steady but massive growth in streams on the Boomplay music app.
